Gurugram Traffic Relief: DLF’s New Underpasses Coming Soon

DLF underpass gurgaon

Gurugram Commuters, Rejoice! The long hours stuck in traffic at Shankar Chowk and Moulsari Avenue may soon be history. DLF, one of India’s biggest real estate players, has unveiled a bold plan to build multiple underpasses, including a direct NH-48 route toward Delhi and three more seamless connections along Moulsari Avenue. Imagine skipping those endless U-turns, breezing past bottlenecks, and reaching your office or home in record time this could soon become reality!

DLF Suggests Underpasses to Relieve Gurugram Traffic

Gurugram traffic jams can shortly expect to breathe a sigh of relief. DLF, a top real estate development company in India, has suggested the development of a two-lane underpass along National Highway-48 (NH-48). The initiative is aimed at relieving traffic movement from Moulsari Avenue towards Delhi, especially at congested Shankar Chowk square.

Today, cars moving from Moulsari Avenue towards Delhi have to take U-turns at Shankar Chowk, which leads to long queues and keeps people waiting. The planned underpass will enable cars to avoid this choke point entirely, saving travel time and enhancing the flow of traffic. “We are willing to pay for the project if necessary.

The underpass will allow free flow of traffic towards Delhi,” said a senior DLF official.

Three More Underpasses on Moulsari Avenue

Three more underpasses on Moulsari Avenue are planned by DLF as well. These underpasses will be linking major projects like DLF Downtown and DLF Mall of India to the main road directly.

All these underpasses will go under the Rapid Metro line and connect the basements of these projects with the road at three different levels. The aim is to decrease traffic congestion without compromising safety for the existing metro infrastructure. Systra, which is the detailed design consultant for the Gurugram Metro project, has been entrusted with the work of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these underpasses.

The cost of the DPR will be borne by DLF, while Systra will ensure that the construction does not interfere with metro operations.A top HMRTC official had confirmed that the plan had been debated in a High-Powered Committee meeting for the metro project. The three underpasses will enable cars to proceed effortlessly towards Delhi as well as Gurugram, enhancing connectivity for regular commuters and lessening traffic congestions during peak hours.

Pedestrian Subway at Shankar Chowk

DLF is also completing a pedestrian subway at Shankar Chowk that will link the National Media Centre on NH-48 to Udyog Vihar.

The project, undertaken by the DLF Foundation, should be in operation by the last week of October.

This subway will consist of lifts, escalators, stairs, and illumination, making a safe and convenient crossing for thousands of people daily. Office commuters and industrial workers who earlier could not easily cross the highway safely will immensely benefit from this facility. The estimated cost of the project is ₹25 crore, which indicates DLF’s endeavor to improve commuter safety and infrastructure in the city.

Improved Traffic Flow and Connectivity

The integration of car underpasses and pedestrian subways holds the key to important traffic management improvements.

Cars commuting from Moulsari Avenue towards Delhi will no longer be compelled to make cumbersome U-turns at Shankar Chowk. Likewise, pedestrians will have a safe, segregated passage to cross the busy road, minimizing the chances of accidents.DLF’s proposals exhibit a developer-driven strategy for urban infrastructure with private investment playing an active role in addressing public traffic issues.

These projects also add value to surrounding properties, increasing the appeal of these areas to consumers and investors.

Expert Insight: SKJ Landbase MD Sanjeev Singh on DLF’s Gurugram Traffic Plan

gurugram DLF construction

Sanjeev Singh, Managing Director at SKJ Landbase, said about DLF’s proposals:

This is a big leap towards decongesting Gurugram’s daily traffic woes. Such developer-promoted infrastructure projects not only increase connectivity but also enhance the entire commuting experience. We expect other developers and local authorities to take cue from this and develop safer and efficient urban landscapes. Such projects can turn congested routes into smooth, well-designed corridors, benefiting residents and businesses alike.

His remark also emphasizes the need for coordination between developers, government bodies, and urban planners in designing sustainable traffic solutions.

✅ Advantages of the Project Proposals

  • NH-48 Underpass: Vehicles from Moulsari Avenue can enter Delhi directly without U-turns, avoiding congestion.
  • Three Moulsari Avenue Underpasses: Streamlined connectivity from DLF Downtown and DLF Mall of India to the main road, going below the Rapid Metro.
  • Pedestrian Subway at Shankar Chowk: Safe, contemporary, and convenient walkway for thousands of pedestrians every day.
  • Developer Investment: DLF is ready to invest in construction, reflecting investment in the city’s infrastructure.
  • Improved Connectivity: All projects strive to facilitate better movement of vehicles and ease travel stress in rush hours.

Future Impact on Gurugram

Gurugram is expanding fast as a commercial and residential hub. Traffic jams have become a daily nuisance to people commuting, particularly near Shankar Chowk and Moulsari Avenue.

DLF’s underpass plans along with pedestrian subways are an innovative move that strikes a balance between urban development and infrastructural development.By demarcating foot and car traffic, these projects will make travel safer, more convenient, and more connected. They also illustrate how private developers can become participants in urban planning, helping to improve travel experiences for commuters while enhancing property values around them.

With these subways and underpasses, citizens, office workers, and industrial employees will experience reduced travel times, improved safety while crossing, and increased traffic smoothness, rendering Gurugram a more commuter-friendly city.
