NHAI’s 3-Km Elevated Corridor at Narsinghpur May Finally End Delhi–Gurgaon Expressway Chaos
For daily commuters on the Delhi–Gurgaon Expressway, traffic jams feel like a routine punishment. Every monsoon, the situation worsens near Narsinghpur. Waterlogging slows vehicles. Long queues form. Office hours collapse. Frustration peaks. Now, a long-awaited solution may finally take shape. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed a 3-kilometre elevated corridor at Narsinghpur to ease congestion on NH-48. The authority will soon prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) after high-level discussions with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
If implemented efficiently, this project could redefine traffic movement between Delhi and Gurugram.
Why Narsinghpur Remains a Chronic Bottleneck
First, it is important to understand the problem.
The Narsinghpur stretch lies between Hero Honda Chowk and Kherki Daula toll plaza. This section carries massive traffic volumes every single day. Office commuters, airport traffic, freight vehicles, and intercity travelers all depend on this road. However, the area faces severe waterlogging during the monsoon. Overflow from the Badshahpur drain floods service lanes and carriageways. As a result, traffic slows to a crawl. Even minor rainfall causes hour-long delays.
Although GMDA created a temporary drain last year, the relief remained short-lived. Therefore, authorities recognized the need for a permanent, future-ready solution.
What the 3-Km Elevated Corridor Aims to Achieve
The proposed elevated corridor will run along Narsinghpur village on the Delhi–Gurgaon Expressway. The structure will allow vehicles to move above flood-prone zones, even during heavy rainfall.
Most importantly, this elevated road will ensure uninterrupted traffic flow throughout the year. Commuters will no longer depend on ground-level roads that flood every monsoon.
Additionally, the corridor will reduce pressure on service roads. Emergency vehicles will move faster. Commercial logistics will operate smoothly. Travel time between Delhi and Gurugram will drop significantly.
Over time, this stretch could become a critical connector for Delhi–Sohna and Delhi–Jaipur traffic.
Rajiv Chowk Decongestion Gets a Fresh Push
Alongside the Narsinghpur corridor, NHAI also plans to address congestion at Rajiv Chowk, another major traffic pain point.
During the meeting, officials proposed two elevated grade separators. One elevated ramp will serve left-turn traffic from Delhi towards Sohna. Another elevated ramp will support right-turn traffic from Sohna towards Delhi, including access from service lanes. These changes will streamline vehicle movement. Signal dependency will reduce. Peak-hour congestion will ease.
As a result, connectivity between Sohna Road, NH-48, and the Mumbai Expressway will improve considerably.
Permanent Drainage Solutions to Support the Corridor
However, infrastructure upgrades cannot succeed without proper drainage planning.
To address this, GMDA has already begun constructing a permanent stormwater drain up to Badshahpur. This drain will divert excess rainwater from Narsinghpur service lanes more efficiently.
At the same time, NHAI will construct a culvert on NH-48 to improve overall drainage capacity. Both agencies will jointly plan and execute the work to ensure smooth coordination.
Together, these measures aim to eliminate waterlogging rather than merely manage it.
Focus on Pedestrian Safety and Flood-Prone Underpasses
The discussions also covered pedestrian safety on NH-48.
GMDA has identified several critical locations for Foot Over Bridges (FOBs). NHAI will construct these bridges and later hand them over to GMDA for maintenance.
In addition, joint inspections will evaluate flood-prone underpasses along the highway. Authorities plan to take corrective steps before the next monsoon season.
This multi-layered approach signals a shift toward more holistic urban infrastructure planning.
Impact on Gurugram’s Real Estate and Growth Corridors

According to Sanjeev Singh, Managing Director, SKJ Landbase, the project could create lasting value across Gurugram’s growth corridors.
“Reliable road infrastructure acts as a strong catalyst for real estate growth. The proposed Narsinghpur elevated corridor will significantly improve travel predictability on NH-48 and boost long-term residential and commercial demand across Sohna Road and adjoining micro-markets,” said Sanjeev Singh, MD, SKJ Landbase.
Better roads improve livability. They also strengthen investor confidence and economic activity.
What Lies Ahead for the Project
Next, NHAI will finalize the DPR and initiate stakeholder consultations. Authorities will address land-related challenges and finalize execution timelines. While the project still faces procedural steps, the intent appears firm.
This time, NHAI and GMDA aim to deliver a permanent, resilient solution to Gurugram’s recurring traffic woes.If execution stays on track, the 3-km elevated corridor at Narsinghpur could finally change how Delhi and Gurugram connect especially during the monsoon.
For thousands of daily commuters, that change could be life-altering.
