🌟 Gurgaon Launches 11-Week Cleanliness Campaign
On September 7, Gurgaon launched an 11-week cleanliness campaign as part of the Haryana Shahri Swachhta Abhiyan. Running until November 7, the campaign aims to clean the city while raising awareness about hygiene and encouraging residents to adopt responsible habits.
🧹 More Than Just Cleaning
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar explained that the campaign focuses on changing mindsets, not just sweeping streets. He stressed that everyone should make cleanliness a part of their daily routine.
Moreover, the campaign invites participation from multiple groups. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, government departments, local residents, students, and volunteers from NGOs and community organizations will actively join. Every contribution, whether big or small, plays a role in making a visible impact.
🏙️ Areas of Focus
The campaign will target several key areas:
- Main roads, which see heavy traffic daily
- Markets, where waste accumulates quickly
- Public spaces, including parks and squares
- Residential neighborhoods, ensuring streets and homes stay tidy
In addition, residents will take the pledge ‘Swachhta Meri Zimmedari’, meaning “Cleanliness is my responsibility,” to reinforce the importance of personal accountability.
🌿 Importance of Cleanliness
Ajay Kumar highlighted that the campaign’s ultimate goal is to create a healthier and cleaner Haryana. Beyond improving waste management, the initiative aims to reach households with the message that hygiene is everyone’s responsibility.
🤝 Encouraging Community Participation
To achieve success, the Deputy Commissioner met with Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), NGOs, and social groups. He encouraged these organizations to share ideas and feedback to improve city sanitation. When communities and authorities collaborate, the results become far more impactful.
💪 Cooperation for Lasting Change
He also emphasized that visible change depends on teamwork. Officers are encouraged to start by maintaining cleanliness in their offices and then extend these efforts throughout the city. By working together, Gurgaon can become a model city that inspires other cities across Haryana and beyond.
⚠️ Addressing Sanitation Challenges
The campaign launches amid complaints about garbage collection and sanitation issues. Several community groups, including expatriates, have already started small cleanliness initiatives. Earlier this month, Rajesh Khullar, Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, visited Gurgaon to personally assess the sanitation situation.
🌏 Part of a State-Wide Initiative
Gurgaon’s campaign is part of the larger Haryana Shahri Swachhta Abhiyan, which aims to improve hygiene in urban areas across the state. Cities like Mohali and Chandigarh are also participating. This initiative complements the Swachh Bharat Mission, which encourages sustainable waste management and cleaner urban spaces.
💚 Building a Cleaner, Healthier Future
Ultimately, the campaign depends on the active participation of residents. With support from the government and community members, Gurgaon hopes to foster habits that make cleanliness a daily practice rather than a temporary effort.
By joining in consistently, residents can help the city serve as an example for other regions. In the coming weeks, Gurgaon’s streets, markets, and neighborhoods will reflect the dedication and care of its people, showing how small, regular actions can create a cleaner, healthier environment. 🌿
