A Major Infrastructure Push for Gurugram
Gurugram continues to expand rapidly. New residential sectors, corporate parks, and commercial hubs keep emerging across the city. However, this rapid growth has also created increasing traffic pressure on key roads.To address this challenge, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has floated a ₹755 crore tender to develop an elevated corridor along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR).
The project aims to create a signal-free stretch between NH-48 and Vatika Chowk, two of the most important traffic junctions in the city. Once completed, the project will significantly improve daily commuting. Thousands of vehicles travel on this corridor every day. 4.2 Km Signal-Free Elevated Corridor Planned
The upcoming infrastructure project will transform the 4.2-kilometre stretch between Vatika Chowk and NH-48 into a modern signal-free corridor.
The design includes four lanes in each direction, allowing vehicles to move without interruptions. This arrangement will handle heavy traffic volumes during peak hours. In addition, the project includes several supporting road networks to manage traffic efficiently.

- 4+4 lane elevated corridor for high-speed traffic movement
- 3+3 lane primary service roads on both sides
- 2+2 secondary service lanes for smoother local traffic
- Two-lane ramps for entry and exit at major junctions
- Interchanges at NH-48 and Vatika Chowk
This layered infrastructure design will separate local and long-distance traffic. Consequently, vehicles travelling longer distances will avoid traffic signals and internal city routes.

The proposed elevated corridor will provide a direct route between NH-48 and Vatika Chowk. Consequently, vehicles will bypass multiple signals and congested intersections.

According to officials, the SPR elevated corridor project will take approximately 30 months to complete after the contract award.

Infrastructure projects like the proposed elevated corridor will further strengthen connectivity across the city. Improved road networks not only reduce commuting time but also increase the attractiveness of nearby residential and commercial developments. In the coming years, we expect the SPR region to witness strong real estate growth driven by such infrastructure upgrades.”
